Lesson plan is a plan per unit that will be applied by the teacher in classroom learning. Lesson plan is very needed before implementation, because with lesson plan the teaching and learning process will be able to show its quality and be more focused in the process of achieving educator goals. The lesson plan that is prepared must contain learning goals and objectives that include cognitive aspects, affective aspects, and psychomotor aspects which will later be included in the teaching and learning process.

In making lesson plan, we must include:
  • Lesson objectives: what do you expect your students to learn.
  • Procedures: the activities that should be done by students.
  • Assessment: assignment that you will give to your students and the way you mark it.
We can use technology to support our learning. It means we can find the material in the internet such as youtube or google or perhaps, we can create an interactive learning using technology media such as teaching using podcast, animation video, creative power point, timeline, and so on.  We can also use social media as a learning tool such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Now, I would like to give you an example of lesson plan that related with technology.


Level : Pre- Intermediate 
Lesson Type : Grammar and Reading
Main aim : To focus on the contrast of past simple and past continuous 
Lesson Length : 40 minutes

Objectives  :
a. Students can apply the formula and the function of past simple and past continuous
b. Students can use "when" action in progress in the past interrupted by another action in the past
c. Students will have practiced make a short paragraph about past simple and past continuous and post it to the instagram. 

Pre activity : 
  • Teacher makes sure that the projector running well 
  • Teacher makes sure that all students have Instagram account
  • Teacher introduce the film and help Students to sign up if they have no Instagram account
Procedures :
  1. The teacher begins with ask to the student "do you know this soundtrack?" "which film was it?"
  2. The teacher shows a picture with shark 
  3. The teacher ask students to read the article in the internet about shark, and the the teachers ask to find the past simple and past continuous

  5. The teacher give some explanation about past simple and past continuous, then answer some question from the students

  7. in the last, the teacher ask the students to create their own paragraph using past simple and past continuous, and post it to the instagram with tag #assignmentpastcontinousandpastsimple.

Alright, this is my last (CALL) assignment in the fourth semester. I am very happy and can smile widely because I can complete the challenges that exist in this CALL lecture. For the last task at the 13th meeting, namely "Self-Directed Professional Development". What is professional development? So, according to wikipedia, professional development is learning to earn or maintain professional credentials such as academic degrees to formal coursework, attending conferences, and informal learning opportunities situated in practice.

In this assignment, I had to join a group on the internet, then I was only asked to comment on one of the posts in the discussion forum and shoot it. quite simple isn't it? below are the groups that can be used to join :

  • Yahoo Groups
  • Google Groups
  • One Stop English Discussions

Apart from these five, I can join groups on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, WA groups, etc. Because, we have met many TEFL/TESOL teaching groups on social media and even on the internet. In Addition, I chose to join the TEFL forum discussion on Facebook. The group was created by the british council, of course for discussion the forum is open to the public. However, the group is private and only certain people can enter the TEFL british council group. In the forum discussion, I commented on one of the posts. below is the result of my comment.

As a teacher, classroom management is very important. To be able to create an interactive classroom atmosphere and a good environment we must be able to manage the class first. Of course, there are now a lot of media on the internet that provide learning in order to create a fun and interactive classroom management. For the example, Engrade as gradebook, teach-nology for making lesson plan, scheduleonce and doodle for scheduling, quizstar and classmarker for creating quiz, etc. However, many of us still do not understand the usefulness of these platforms. 

When I am asked to choose three of the tools that are given in session 13.
First, we can start lesson by previewing particularly exciting parts, hooking student interest from the get-go. For the example, go through an agenda of the day highlight for the whole class using lesson plan (The Lesson Builder, http://thelessonbuilder.org) that we’ve made before. These include group tasks, engaging bits of content and anything else to pique curiosity. The goal of the lesson plan in class management is interest students in the agenda and thereby dissuade poor classroom management.  
Second, we can provide a range of activities during free study time to appeal to students who struggle to process content in silence, individually. For example, creating a challenging group games and allowing students to work in groups while taking notes and completing work, We can use class grouping(http://www.aschool.us/random/random-pair.php).
Third, Encourage students to work on questions in the form of quizzes, in this case helping students to deepen their understanding of the material given. Nowadays, there are many quiz maker applications such as Quizstar (http://quizstar.4teachers.org/). That way, make it easier for teachers to manage classrooms. we can manage classes and quizzes, attach multimedia files to questions, make quizzes in multiple languages, access from any Internet-connected computer, allow students to complete and review.

In English, there are four skills that must be mastered, namely speaking, listening, reading and writing. The four skills are related to each other. In these four skills, listening is a skill that is often considered difficult by students. This is because sometimes we don't focus on listening to native speakers, so we won't understand what is being said. It often happens, because the conversation in the listening session is considered boring and even the speaker is too fast. Thus, the teacher must be able to make interesting listening learning.
There are so many ways to make listening learning interesting, such as listening to music, movies, dialogues, or even podcasts. However, in this digital era, podcasts are preferred by children or even teenagers than dialogue. This is because the delivery on podcasts feels more relaxed but the meaning can be understood easily. Nowadays, we have seen quite a lot of free podcasts on the internet, for example on Spotify and Soundcloud. Or even we can create our own podcast because there are many platforms that provide creating our own podcast. Podcasting platforms are audacity and anchor. So, we don't have trouble finding materials to teach listening. With podcasts, it is very easy for us to teach listening.

In this pandemic situation, we are have an online class which is all done from home. Thus, sometimes there are difficulties when teaching speaking skills. In fact, actually speaking skills are skills that are important for students to master in order to communicate well with foreigners. However, unfortunately in this online class speaking learning is not emphasized because sometimes teachers and students do not meet virtually. Even though the use of video conferences such as zoom, meet, and even skype can help students improve their speaking skills. Not only that, with video conferences students can also increase their self-confidence. 

By using video conferences they can exchange opinions orally, and also discuss things. Here I will give an example of using video conferences (google meet) as a means of exchanging ideas and as a learning tool. For the video please click this link

In language learning, teachers and students can take advantage of interaction with others to make writing a cooperative activity, with great benefits to all those involved. Collaborative (cooperative) writing works well, whether the focus is on the writing process, or alternatively, on genre study. Nowadays, we can use google drive as a platform to do collaborative writing. With Google Drive, we can edit our writing together. In addition, we can also exchange opinions and writings with Google Drive. So that it will attract students' enthusiasm for writing. 

By collaborative writing using google drive, students will produce their own writing online. Thus, Does not require students to meet face-to-face in order to be able to do collaborative writing. Simply by sitting in front of a laptop screen, opening Google Drive, and having internet access, students can also do collaborative writing.  Writing in groups, whether as part of a long process or as part of a shorter sequence, can be greatly motivating for students, including as it does, not only writing but also research, discussion, peer evaluation and group pride in a group accomplishment. Thus, we as teachers must be able to make creative learning.

There are so many media to create an interactive teaching reading. Comic and hot potatoes are kind of media that make teaching reading more fun and creative. Of course, this kind of media is the new innovation for teachers that is used to teach reading skill using technology. As we know, today's children are more familiar with technology, so with the media comics and hot potatoes, it is easier for them to read. What's more, the lack of literacy in today's children is because the readings given are too boring for them or too many texts. With comics and hot potatoes, they will not feel bored quickly when reading the text, which is short, concise and clear. Nowadays, teaching using technology will be more impressive than just giving students a lot of reading.
