My First Impression of The CALL Course

In the fourth semester, I got a CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) course where this course was taken with 4 credits. Honestly, at the first time I designed a Study Plan Card or often abbreviated to KRS, I felt unfamiliar with this course, so it raised some questions in my mind such as what is CALL?, how it is learned?, what is the lesson like? and so on. Thus, I searched for answers to my questions from google. When I found out what CALL was, I suddenly felt anxious, scared and disliked because I can't do anything related to technology at all (only can use social media such as instagram, facebook, twitter, whatsapp, and so on ) and of course I also hate anything related to editing because my basic about computer is not very good. Therefore, I had a bad first impression of the CALL course.

However, the reality is not like my first impression. On the first day of this course started, my lecturer explained what call and topics will be taught through zoom media (because I am still studying online). At the first meeting, I was given the 'Online Learning Strategies' material. In that material I was given a reading and after that was asked to fill in mini quiz or introduce myself through google classroom. In this course, there are 13 meetings and there are also 13 assignments to complete. In my opinion, the most difficult assignment are those related to group work, not because the material is difficult but it's about time. It is not easy to find time to unite 3 people in 1 group in this pandemic period, moreover we are still online class and sometimes our busy schedules are different and also class schedules which collide with each other. So, my group always works on a tight deadline but still collects it before the deadline. Besides that, I also have a very memorable task for me, namely making comics. At first, I thought making comics was difficult and complicated, but after I studied the material provided and there were several platforms available, I felt that making comics for learning was very fun and not difficult. Moreover, the characters on the platform are also funny and unique.

When my first impression of the CALL course was not good. However, at the end of the lesson I felt that the CALL course really helped me in increasing my knowledge in technology and computers. I am very grateful with this course. Thus, I am not ignorant and can be more creative in designing lessons when teaching in the future. From this CALL course, I have learned many valuable lessons, so I would like to thank my beloved lecturer, Mr. Syaifuddin who has guided me and my friends until the end of the lesson.
